The primary objectives of the NaturallyAfrican platform are to:-
- Catalyze and establish stakeholder networks, communities of practice and strategic alliances;
- Assemble scientific documentation (including primary and secondary data) on the chemical attributes of specific natural products;
- Contribute to the elaboration of product quality standards and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for key natural products;
- Identify new market opportunities for marginalized small-scale producers (rural women in particular);
- Facilitate producer ‘up-scaling’ in natural products value chains through training and technical support of rural producer groups;
- Facilitate the networking and inter-linkage between producer groups and key stakeholders of the private sector;
- Develop models of sustainable use and local management of plant genetic resources;
- Reinforce, through increased livelihood returns to primary producers, the traditional custodial role of rural women over plant resources;
- Promote increased recognition, consumer appreciation and demand for African natural products at the local, national, regional and international levels; and
- Advocate in support of effective, constructive and enabling policy and technical instruments, with attention to trade as well as to social and environmental sustainability.
