Our approach
Naturally African platform will adopt a proactive and bottom up approach towards its mission. The approach will involve:
- Establishing a strategic alliance building between researchers, extension workers, producers and marketers.
- Developing impact networks hence facilitating low cost collaborations.
- Carrying out whole system organization to establish leverage points and set intervention areas for individual stakeholders.
- Establish corporate partnership based on common interest with the private sector to implement strategic result based initiatives and support for domestication and pinpoint research programs on training, quality assurance, value addition and marketing in the natural product sector.
- Advocating for better recognition, development and economic appreciation of indigenous tree products in Africa.
- Creating opportunity for marginalized small-scale producers (mostly women) to access and compete in domestic and international natural tree products market.
- Advocating for acceptable policies in the natural product sector.
Our objectives
The six main objectives of the platform are:
- To provide business plans and market intelligence on tree products.
- To facilitate workshops, seminars, exchange visits and other events among the stakeholders.
- To perform technical feasibility, value addition, cost benefit analysis and certification options.
- Provide relevant policy information to reduce barriers to the tree product market and its access.
- To collaborate with other organizations to educate consumers globally on the products grown by African small holders.
- Domestication of tree management information and training; tree germplasm improvement, geographic domain recommendations, sustainable harvesting and diversity guidelines.
The expected deliverables
The platform will provide six key deliverables:
- Sound knowledge and technical assistance on the utility, availability and transformation of natural products.
- Built market awareness and intelligence for natural products.
- Impact networking of multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional, and multi-national stakeholders.
- Innovative product development, processing and marketing of natural products.
- Provide market development services to the producers.
- Develop tree product directory, product sourcing and pipeline development services to potential buyers.
