Wild ginger is a forest floor plant with aromatic rhizomatous roots; leaves deciduous sprouting annually from the underground stem in spring; may reach a height of up to 400mm

Geographic Distribution: South Africa (KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga)
Uses/Applications: the rhizome is anti-inflammatory (prostaglandin-synthetase inhibition), bronchodilatory, smooth muscle relaxant, mildly sedative, and anti-candidal; rhizomes and roots are chewed fresh to treat asthma, hysteria, colds, coughs & flu, malaria, horse sickness, and chewed by women during mensuration
